Costa del Sol Area Guide
Spanish Properties SiteMap | Direct Estates
The Costa del Sol on the south coast of Spain has one of the best climates in the world with 325 days of sunshine each year and warm temperatures. Protected by the sea to the south and mountains to the north, the coastal temperatures rarely drop below 10 degrees C at night in winter, and rarely rise over 35 degrees C on the warmest days of summer.
The 300-km region is regarded as the Costa del Golf due to its magnificent courses. The standard of these courses are very high and some of the worlds greatest tournaments are played here - including the renowned Ryder Cup.
Local hotspots include famous places like Malaga, the capital, and the upmarket Marbella. Lesser know destinations include the whitewashed village of Mijas and the picturesque Ronda.
Marbella has been the chic-est spot on the Costa del Sol since a wealthy playboy transformed his luxurious seaside house into the select Marbella Club in the 1950s. Now the town is famous for its "Golden Mile" with its luxury hotels, gardens and the residences of aristocrats, society gadabouts and successful business people. Visitors enjoy strolling the streets grouped around Orange Square and gathering at Puerto Banús to see the luxury yachts and sailboats anchor. Upscale bars, sidewalk cafes and gourmet restaurants abound.
